The Field
Airfield
Our flying site is approximately 20 acres
of open grassland with no aerial obstructions, bordered
by mainly non-residential areas. We have several flying
squares marked out, including smaller hovering practice
areas and a larger area for flying on the flight line. It is a
registered model flying site approved by the BMFA and
accordingly, all pilots must hold valid insurance to fly
(i.e. BMFA membership which we can arrange).
Cabin
In the centre of the pit area is
the cabin, a steel container which we use
as a base for transmitter control, drinks and shelter
from the rain. A bench in the cabin allows us to work on
our models and carry out safety checks. The cabin is
also the main meeting place for speakers of bullshit. The
cabin contains:
- a water boiler for hot drinks;
- the pegboard;
- a worktable for heli maintenance and set-up;
- a sofa and chairs for lazy buggers;
- and a gas fire for those cold wintry days.
Parking
We have a car park bordering the pit area allowing us
to pit out of our car boots, so there is no lugging your
gear for miles to the pits. There's plenty of
space for all members.
